  This is my second time to East Springs Hospital seeing Dr MacDonald. Outrageous 1400 dollars estimate for small easy tumor removal. The first appt. was to trimmed off damaged tissue, suture, injectable sedation, and pills for 261.0. Dollars. Now a tumor in nearly the same area requires a major surgery to include charges 487. Dollars to remove tumor, Anesthesia about 250 dollars, hospitalization 41 dollars, operating room supplies 48 dollars, suture material 13 dollars, disposable Electrocautery 19 dollars, Rimadyl injection 32.88 dollars, blood glucose test two 54 dollars, Elizabethan collar 6.75--- dollars the only item that Dr. McDonald would drop off the price, a whole 6.75 Fluids set up 55. Dollars, I.V. Infusion pump 42. Dollars to use a piece of equipment. Rimadyl 75 mg 22.80 dollars, Simplicef 100 mg five tabs 19.40 dollars Total price of 1100. Dollars Also might be needed PABW2 in house 162. Dollars, dextrose additive 24 dollars, CSU Histopathology 107 dollars, CSU Fed Ex fee 13. Dollars Grand total of 1406. Dollars. This tumor is below the skin above the muscle and ribs and should take 10- 15 minutes to remove just like the last mammory tumor and the last Two vets charged no more than 500 dollars for the last two tumor removals. My guess is that there's high overhead and rent to pay. Don't get me wrong Dr. McDonald does excellent work but I am still paying for my dogs last several surgeries. I expected a est. of maybe 600 or 700 dollars. I have own animals for 35 years and when the simple dog exam cost 60 dollars and my PCM exam cost 75 dollars, it does not seem right. If I had this tumor it would be removed with local injection and cost half as much. If you did these surgeries all day and charged their prices, you will make 8000 dollars and forty thousand a week, for a grand total 160,000 a month. I don't think a vet should be making more money than a medical doctor. I am middle class and my dog was rescued from animal hoarder. My dog had malnutrition as a puppy fighting with 70 other dogs for food. Now she has Diabetes and she is blind but she loves me and we love her. It's not about the money but it is about the money, what if the tumor is not fully removed and comes back, yes I would have to pay for another surgery, what if there a infection, yes I would have to pay for all care. This animal accepts no risk and charges very high prices. I can do two Blood Glucose test on my dog in three minutes costing me about a dollar per test and they charge 27 dollars each. I think I am being taken advantage of because this surgery could be done for a lot less money.
